Do you enjoy mythology? Do you like learning about history? Al The Great is a story that combines truth with fantasy.
Carmen says:
I grew up with Greek and Roman mythology. (Norse is quite good, too, but that’s a story for another day – perhaps….) A few months ago, I heard several interesting facts about Alexander the Great. He never lost a battle – and he fought in many, if not all, of them. He honored the dead – and war prisoners. Often, he would earn the respect and loyalty of defeated soldiers, and they would fight for him. Once, he captured the wife and mother of an enemy king (the king ran away in battle), but made sure they were treated well. He created new war tactics. He was a philosopher.
And yet, the child who went on to single-handedly conquer much of Europe and Asia reportedly said that, “My father will get ahead of me in everything, and leave nothing great for me to do.”
My imagination kicked in. He was good at everything. Too good. He was Greek – perhaps the Greek gods were on his side?
