“No,” crowed Sharon, grinning from ear to ear. “I tricked you.”

“You certainly did,” replied her mother, “Since we’re in a bit of a hurry, can you get it for me now?”

While her mother looked on, Sharon moved the rock and uncovered the necklace. She brushed the dirt off and placed the chain over her neck.

“Well,” her mother announced, “I’m impressed. I don’t think anyone would have found it there!”

Sharon grinned.

“Mom,” Sharon began once she was seated on Jumbo again, “why didn’t you wake me up to go to the circus with everyone else?”

“Well,” her mother said, “your grandfather needed someone to test this model of his latest invention – someone who did not know anything about the necklace or it’s abilities. They knew you were comfortable traveling through the woods and that you liked puzzles. So, when they asked us about your doing the test, your father and I agreed, provided they would watch you and take care of any problems that arose.”

“Okay, but why didn’t anyone wake me?” Sharon asked.

“You were supposed to be awakened once everyone was in the cars and ready to start out,”
