The children scrambled into their places. As the family traveled to the lake the children had a contest. Mary counted the cows she saw on her side of the road and Marcus counted the cows he saw on his side of the road.

Suddenly Mary said, “Wow. Look at the lake.”

“What’s that above the water?” asked Marcus. “It looks all misty.”

“Is the lake boiling?” questioned Mary. “It looks like the hot steam we get above the pan when Mother cooks spaghetti.”
